Winestein iPhone app wins Red Dot AwardMolenhoek (the Netherlands), September 13th, 2011
The WineStein iPhone app, the digital sommelier that gets you the perfect wine with every dish, has scored a prestigious award. Recently, WineStein was awarded a Red Dot in the Interface Design category.
An international jury of design experts saw a record number of entries for this year’s Red Dot Awards. For communication design only, close to 6,500 entries from 40 countries were received. The annual competition for the ‘Red Dots’ is among the biggest and most renowned in the world.
On Friday oktober 7th 2011, the Konzerthaus in Berlin (Germany) will be the venue for the awards ceremony.
WineStein was developped by WineWineWine in cooperation with experts in artificial intelligence of Radboud University Nijmegen, the Netherlands. Together they developped software that is capable of correctly matching wine with food on the basis of gastronomic properties of dishes and wines. In this, WineStein takes details such as seasoning and preparation into account, as well as the development of wines through time.
WineStein had its experimental launch in 2009. Based on the feedback received, Edenspiekermann was commissioned by WineWineWine to develop a new information structure, navigation and look & feel, including all icons. It was this very user-friendly interface that subsequently won the prestigious Red Dot Award.
